Sports Federation for Schools in Israel

Active Recess is a project taking place in elementary schools all over the country, in an effort to expose girl students to activities in the various sports, to empower them and to advance their sporting potential.
Athena Active Recess is a joint project of the Ministry of Education, Athena – The National Project for the Advancement of Women and Girls in Sports, and the Sports Federation for Schools in Israel.
The project reaches out to elementary schools in an effort to expose girl students as early as possible to activities in the various sports, as part of an enjoyable, experiential day.
Within the activity itself, the girls pass through several sports stations. They play, practice and experience different sports under professional guidance:
● Athletics and comic sports
● Two team sports stations, as per the choice of the local authority
● Two individual sports stations, as per the choice of the local authority
The senior female athletes who operate the stations are premier league players in the different sports.
Follow-up practices take place at the end of the activity at the local authorities hosting the project, in an effort to encourage the girls to continue and experience the sports, to practice and to identify budding sporting talent.
Athena promotes lateral projects at local authorities and in sporting federations, supporting and assisting in the empowerment of girls, adolescents and women in sports. One of Athena’s most successful projects is the Active Recess Project, which has operated in about 20 elementary schools throughout the country over the past year, exposing about 5,500 girls to various sports.
Athena seeks to change societal attitudes, promote female leadership in sports and create a wealth of sporting opportunities geared to enabling every girl and adolescent to maximize their sporting potential.
Do you, too, wish to enable your female students to experience, enjoy and advance a healthy, athletic lifestyle?
